Four recent flops in Malayalam Movies

Thursday, July 21, 2011

Last Friday (July 15), saw four Malayalam films releasing on the same day- Chappa Kurishu, Collector, Film Star and Manushya Mrugam. I

It looked like it was a festival time, but the sad part was all four have failed and was 'hold over' by Monday!
Among the lot Chappa Kurishu took an impressive opening day collections but due to its bad content fell by Saturday noon show.

he others were all goners from day one.
This 'mass suicide' at the box-office was happening at a time when Rathinirvedam, Three Kings and Salt & Pepper had revived small film market.

The pressure to get playing time for the new releases resulted in films which were doing well to be moved to smaller screens or shows getting restricted.
It is high time that Malayalam film industry reorganises and becomes more professional in its outlook. There is an existing law (on paper?) that does not allow more than two releases a week! The trouble is that too many releases a week is eating into each other's business.
